Air Purifier

Do you actually need an Air Purifier at your Home/ workplace

Benefits of Healthy Air and Do you actually need an air purifier at your home?

Now that you are on this webpage, so I assume that you have already dabbled with this question.

There are a lot more pollutants in the air now than there were centuries ago. In India, the situation is much more alarming than rest of the world. 7 of the top 10 most polluted cities in the world are in India and the situation is becoming worse day by day. This situation is not unique to only metro cities but even some smaller cities/ towns have very high levels of air pollution. It is estimated that every year, there are over 5 lakh premature deaths in India due to air pollution.

Toxic pollution affects more than 200 million people worldwide, according to Pure Earth, a non-profit environmental organisation.

To be honest with all of you till couple of years back, I, myself was of the opinion that we don’t need any such device and that the air pollution has been exagerrated to instill panic in the minds of the common man. However, my perception changed completely when I myself developed severe cough which lasted for few months. The cure my doctor suggested was continuous dose of antibiotics or to change the city as my body was not able to accommodate to the high pollution levels. That was the calling for me and I started searching for a good Air Purifier.

Often, the air quality inside the home and office is worse than it is outside and the reason for this is the enclosed space. The use of ACs forces us to keep the doors and windows close which further worsen the situation.

If you suffer from watery eyes, scratchy throat, shortness of breath, and headaches, these are all symptoms of exposure to air pollution. The young and old are particularly susceptible to elevated levels of pollution.

For most people, an air purifier is not a priority. When the air pollution rises, we don’t feel the immediate effects. But the long term exposure to elevated levels of pollution becomes apparent after many years.

For most homes in India, an air purifier should be more important than having an A/C

If you still think air purifier isn’t the right choice for your home; here are some reasons to reconsider:

Air purifiers ensure your family is breathing clean air

There are many airborne toxins which are present in our houses from outdoors and from some common household items such as from furniture, cleaning products etc. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates that indoor air is two to five times dirtier than outdoor air.

Long-term exposure to these invisible pollutants can be carcinogenic (having the potential to cause cancer). They can also lead to neurological damage. Closed, sealed environments like a home or office can collect viruses, flu’s, organisms spread in the air.

An air purifier can effectively kills these microorganisms with a high efficiency, thereby increasing our life expectancy.

Air purifiers remove unpleasant odors

The food  you cook at times makes  the  whole  house  smell  and  how can  we  forget  the cigarette smoke. Whether it’s a family member who smokes or a friend who is visiting your place, an Air purifier not only cleans the air; it also helps get rid of unpleasant and burnt food odours.

Great for homes with pets

Air purifiers trap airborne allergens released by pets. You may love your pet, but your furry friend releases pet dander (Pet dander is composed of tiny, even microscopic, flecks of skin  shed by cats, dogs, rodents, birds and other animals with fur or feathers. These bits of skin can cause reactions in people who are specifically allergic to these triggers), fur and other airborne allergens into the air in your home. Air purifiers help combat these allergens by trapping them before they settle into your home.

Air purifiers trap dust

One thing is for sure that dust is not going anywhere. There will always be dust. No matter what you do to keep your home clean, dust accumulates. An air purifier helps trap dust before it has the chance to settle, leaving you with less dust to clean.

Air purifiers remove up to 99 percent of airborne bacteria

Small airborne particles like pollen, mold spores and other bacteria float around in the air, causing your family to get sick. By cycling the air in the room repeatedly through internal filter an air purifier helps remove up to 99 percent of these airborne pollutants. Air purifiers combat seasonal allergens too.

Air purifiers stop sickness and germs from spreading

Worried about catching your children’s flu? Your spouse’s cold? True HEPA air purifiers capture and neutralize up to 99.97 percent of the airborne germs that you want to avoid.

Air purifiers keep your lungs healthy

Consistent exposure to dust, pollen, dander, and other airborne particles can cause long-term breathing and health issues for you and your family. Using an air purifier in your home gives you the confidence that your lungs will be healthy for years to come.

Ensures a good night’s sleep

A final reason to use an air purifier is to help ensure a good night’s sleep. Invisible air particles floating around can cause congestion right before you sleep. Poor air quality can lead to poor sleep which can cause fatigue and other health problems. People with asthma are at a greater risk from breathing in these small particles during the night, which can trigger asthma attacks.

The benefits of air purifier in a bedroom is that it will help clear the airborne particles before and while you sleep and your quality of sleep will improve.
